    Camera's In Schools

I noticed today at school (gchs) that there were cameras all over the school, they aren't small cameras either, they are pretty big. I was told since they put them at the SCCTC building that Mr. Scott liked them enough that he is going to put them in every school in Scott County.. I was also told that there will be at least one state policeman in every school. I think its great thing to have BUT I walk down the hall and it makes me feel like someone is staring at me every move i make every step i take, and i dont like that feeling, i dont know about everyone else.. but that's just me What is everyones opinion on that?

i think that's the purpose of the cameras. making kids realize that someone is always watching. realistically they're not being watched every minute of the day. most kids don't know that. i bet the cameras will slow down alot of the troubles most schools have from time to time.

    Re: Camera's In Schools

Think it's a GREAT idea. The removal of corporal punishment and other methods of punishment from our public school system has allowed kids to have more or less free reign - and not much control left for teachers, admin/staff, etc.

It all starts at home though. If certain parents would quit thinking and telling their kids (as well as others, for that matter) the world revolves around them and in complete denial of any wrongdoing and actually bring some discipline into play at home - there probably wouldn't be any need for these cameras in schools in the first place.

In the early 70's I toured Hermitage High School in Richmond and they had armed police in every hall. I thought, "wow," Wise County will never need this. I was wrong. I think it is needed and will do some good. There are also camera's in many school buses. I have known some parents who have seen a tape of their child misbehaving and still couldn't or wouldn't believe it.

The cameras are also a good way to keep an eye out for people who shouldn't be at the school.

    Re: Camera's In Schools

Why on earth would Wise Co (or any school system on this end of the state) need police in every hall?

And Big Brother gets closer and closer.

Doesn't matter if the cameras are real or not. Gets the kids used to being under the watchful eye of Big Brother 24/7.

    Re: Camera's In Schools

it's more about school security than it is trying to catch students in wrongdoing. these are probably 24-7 surveillance cameras. feds are really looking to beef up security and educate people about school safety across the nation.
